Deborah asks that you arrive on time with your music prepared. No guests are allowed unless prior arrangements have been made with Deborah.

See results in the first session. Every lesson begins with vocal technique followed by the practical application of the exercises to the song you have brought in. I always have the singer whether professional or student start working on their material right away.

Whether you need to extend and improve your vocal range, eliminate a stubborn vocal break between registers, improve resonance in the speaking as well as singing voice, or learn how to sell a song, there are practical solutions to each specific problem. Along with vocal technique,

Deborah Shulman teaches performing strategies, how to find your own performance personality, and, most importantly, she helps you increase your self-confidence as a complete performer.

Deborah Shulman has been a performer, teacher, director and producer in Los Angeles and New York City for many years. She has performed and taught successfully in all styles - from classical to pop, stage to rock, to the recording studio.

Deborah has taught voice and coached musical theatre and opera, both in Los Angeles and New York. She has served on the faculty of the Musical Theatre Workshop of the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera at the Music Center and the American Center for Musical Theatre in Hollywood. She is presently the head of the Vocal Department at the Performing Arts Center in Northridge. Her vocal clients have included pop stars, Bette Midler, Jennifer Warnes and Linda Ronstadt, and rock stars, David Lee Roth and Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes, among others. She has coached actors, radio personalities and public speakers. She was awarded a Platinum Record for her work on David Lee Roth's album "Skyscraper".

Additionally, she is a lyricist for musical theatre, having collaborated on four libretti for four children's operas based on the fables of Hans Christian Andersen, "Prelude to a Fable", "The Emperor's New Clothes", "The Little Match Girl" and "A Love Charm". Deborah was co-producer of the critically acclaimed National Tour and Los Angeles production of the "All Night Strut" presented at the Cinegrill (where she has also performed frequently) and the Tiffany Theatre in Los Angeles. She continues to produce the show on tour in venues throughout the West Coast. She co-wrote and co-directed the well-received musical revue, "Hollywood's Heyday" for the Welk Resort Theatres in Escondido, CA.

Deborah studied at the prestigious Music Academy of the West, UCLA and CSU Northridge, surveyed a range of vocal, pedagogic and coaching authorities, and melded her studies into an effective and practical approach to vocal studies and problem solving for singers.

"Music is the only language in which you cannot say
